Double Elimination explained

A knockout tournament where you are only out after two losses.

How it works

A bracket is a tree of matches. Everyone starts in the winners bracket. If you lose there, you move to the losers bracket. If you lose there too, you are out.

The Grand Final

The winners of both brackets meet in the Grand Final. The player from the losers bracket has already lost once. With ā€œGrand Final Resetā€, this player must win twice to win the tournament.

This setting is on by default. If you turn it off, the player from the losers bracket only has to win once.

When this format fits

  • You want one bad match not to end the tournament.
  • You have more time, because you play about twice as many matches as in Single Elimination.

Setting it up in Tourneydo

  1. Tap ā€œNew Tournamentā€ and choose ā€œDouble Eliminationā€.
  2. Add at least 3 players.
  3. Under ā€œTournament Rulesā€, you can set a best-of series for each bracket. The Grand Final uses the format of the winners bracket.
  4. Tap ā€œGenerate Tournamentā€, then ā€œStart Tournamentā€.
