What is Buchholz?
The score that decides between players with equal points in the Swiss System.
In short
Buchholz adds up the wins of all your opponents. The stronger your opponents were, the higher your Buchholz. When two players have the same points, the higher Buchholz is ahead.
A simple example
- Anna and Ben have the same points.
- Anna’s opponents have won 5 matches in total, so Anna’s Buchholz is 5.
- Ben’s opponents have won 3 matches in total, so Ben’s Buchholz is 3.
- Anna is ranked above Ben.
Why it is fair
In the Swiss System, not everyone plays the same opponents. Buchholz rewards players who had the harder matches.
Buchholz in Tourneydo
- The app calculates it for you. You do not have to set anything.
- You can see it in the “BH” column of the table.
- When Buchholz is also equal, the number of wins decides, then the other rules.
- A bye adds nothing to Buchholz, because there is no opponent.
